Friday, 8 May 2020

Bedroom-pop artists tend to toil away in isolation, but Okay Kaya took the scenic route to success. Raised in a peninsula community near Oslo, the Norwegian singer-songwriter broke out in her early twenties, attracting star producers to realize her frank, R&B-tinged pop compositions. She soon became disillusioned with toxic industry politics and scrapped her old catalog, instead collaborating with London rogue King Krule and releasing a pair of albums—2018’s Both and follow-up Watch This Liquid Pour Itself—that blend kink, intimacy, and anxiety into miniature anti-ballads.
